Preparing to leave the big city for the open country

The time is fast approaching for us to pack our things and head up north. Emily and I will be working as Discipleship Coaches with EncouragementLink, and organization that we have worked for in the past as summer missionaries. This time in our lives makes me wonder about how Abraham and all those other Bible characters felt when it was their turn to step out and follow God. The application from those stories are finally adding their full weight to my spirit. In church, as a pastor’s kid, I would hear that Abraham had to trust God’s voice and place his faith in what he had, but I really didn’t have to show that much faith in my comfortable young life. In many ways I can see how God has been preparing us through different situations and trials, but the questions are still out there. God has always provided for us in the past, and we look forward to giving Him glory in the future. We moved to Chicago when I didn’t yet have a job, and now we are moving to the UP without a job. We actually do have a job, there just won’t be a salary for sure  this time. One way God has prepared us, is through family turning us on to author and pastor, Francis Chan. His books, Crazy Love and Forgotten God, relate a type of faith that is not lukewarm or fearful about God’s providence and power. The examples he gives and the applications he gleans from the Bible make it seem obvious for us to follow God in this endeavor. Francis even talks about how some people in his life would discourage him from making a sacrifice, but he followed God’s will and things turned out o.k. UP, here we come!

Update:

We are talking with our church this Memorial Day weekend and handing out our support postcards. Emily has done a wonderful job drafting and creating this.

We plan to move to the UP on the weekend of June 20th.

The first camp starts on June 27th. Pray that the Holy Spirit would already be working on kid’s hearts. He is the one that does the work.

We will lift your family in prayer. My family will be following and supporting your commintment to touching the lives of others. Noah was so blessed to be a part of your time at MCS and I trust the people of the UP will be just as fortunate.

We are all excited to see how God is going to use the lives that you are pouring out in the UP. Be encouraged that a step of faith will be rewarded in this life or the next. God bless you and your ministry.
